365 Broken Face Bones
HCL 21: 365 Broken Face Bones was the twenty-first mixed martial arts event held by the Human Cockfighting League. The event took place on June 9, 2013 from the Tupelo Events Center & Honey Warehouse in Tupelo, Mississippi. This event was the one-year anniversary celebration of the Human Cockfighting League, which began on May 19, 2012, but also recognizes its anniversary as the first fully produced show.
This event featured seven sanctioned mixed martial arts bouts. All fights consisted of three five-minute rounds, except for the main event championship fight, which consisted of five five-minute rounds.
The show was headlined by the first title defense of Gustaf "The Gooz" Ackerman, who soundly defeated knockout artist Anthony Rosario. Rosario never got going in the fight, only scoring one knockdown in the middle of the second round. However, "The Gooz" was able to overpower his opponent, swarm him with strikes, and finally finish it from a ground and pound position.
The highlight of the night might have been the amazing comeback victory of Teddy Grabowski, who was being soundly dominated for two full rounds by Montpelier Nash. The third round began the same, with Nash keeping the fight in close range, on the ground at times. However, Grabowski was able to secure a top position on the ground, move to mount, and use his punching power to score the knockout, for a much-needed victory.
One other note from this show was Victor Young's loss to debuting Ben McGuirk via TKO. After the fight, Young seemed rather panicked, and though not appearing injured, there was a noticeable change in him. Doctors were seen chasing him down, as he immediately stormed out of the cage and to the back. Reports on Young are still hazy, as he refused medical treatment, opting to get dressed and leave the Honeypot immediately. It was later determined that Young had regained his memory, and remembered that he was a retired mixed martial artist. He then retired from HCL immediately.
